This is the first revision in over a decade of one of the standard works in the field. Originally designed for professionals in the publishing world -- editors, proofreaders, copyeditors, (and even publishers) -- it has since become a work that is more widely used by others in the grip of the information Age. It has become broadly useful because it deals with matters of consistency, style, and the formal approach to works longer than a memo or letter. While "Copyediting" still addresses all issues within the framework of the publication of a book, the applications of the principles can continue to expand to other works. For the professionals (or hopefuls) in the publishing disciplines, the book remains focused on the basic content it has always addressed, the ill-defined but vital tools of copyediting. Within that framework it is difficult to describe exactly what has changed. Much of the work is, as it always has been, the product of a lot of attention to detail. The subtle changes are noted, the influences of technology are described, and a new bibliography brings the reader up to date. There is no better brief introduction or reference on the subject anywhere.
